In a historic move, the United States Golf Association (USGA) has announced the renaming of its most prestigious amateur awards to honor Tiger Woods, acknowledging his unparalleled contributions to the sport. Beginning in 2026, the US Amateur Championship medal will be known as the "Tiger Woods Medal," and the US Junior Amateur Championship trophy will be called the "Tiger Woods Trophy." These changes reflect Woods' exceptional record, being the only golfer to secure three consecutive wins in both championships from 1991 to 1996. The redesigned medal will feature an image of Woods' iconic celebration, and both awards will debut at the 2026 championships at Saucon Valley Country Club and Merion Golf Club. USGA CEO Mike Whan emphasized Woods' transformational impact on amateur golf, noting that his achievements redefined excellence. The tribute also acknowledges Woods' broader influence on the sport, including expanding its global reach and inspiring younger generations. Woods, who received the Bob Jones Award in 2024, expressed deep gratitude, calling the recognition "incredibly humbling." He joins other golf greats such as Jack Nicklaus and Mickey Wright in having USGA awards named after them.
