Presidents Cup match previews: Captains set lineups for Sunday Singles - PGA Tour

As the Presidents Cup reaches its conclusion at Medinah, the International Team holds a 10.5-7.5 lead heading into the decisive Sunday Singles matches.

A Final Day at Medinah

The stage is set at Medinah Country Club for the final day of the Presidents Cup. The International Team enters the concluding Sunday Singles session with a 10.5-7.5 lead over the U.S. Team. The International Team needs to secure five of the 12 matches to reach the 15.5 points required to claim the Cup. Conversely, the U.S. Team needs 7.5 points to retain the trophy and extend its winning streak to 11.

This marks a rare position for the International Team. In 2019, they carried a 10-8 lead into the Sunday Singles at Royal Melbourne, only to see the U.S. Team rally for an 8-4 win. In contrast, the U.S. Team enjoyed three-point leads entering Sunday in both 2022 and 2024 before successfully winning the Cup. This year, the Americans must attempt to flip the script at Medinah, while the International Team aims to make history.

The Sunday Singles Matchups

Early Matches

In the first match at 12:02 p.m., rookie Ryo Hisatsune faces Cameron Young. Hisatsune is 1-1-0 this week, while Young enters at 2-2-0. At 12:14 p.m., Tom Kim—who has been a catalyst for the International side with a 3-1-0 record—takes on Wyndham Clark. Clark is 1-3-0 but enters the match coming off a momentum-building split in Saturday afternoon’s Foursomes.

Corey Conners, who sits at 2-2-0 after a key comeback victory, faces Justin Thomas at 12:26 p.m. Thomas is 1-1-1 at Medinah and holds a 10-3-2 career Presidents Cup record, though he has yet to win a Singles match in his career. At 12:38 p.m., Nico Echavarria faces world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler. Scheffler is 2-1-0 for the week, while rookie Echavarria has played only once.

Mid-Session Battles

At 12:50 p.m., Sungjae Im (2-1-1) faces Sam Burns (2-2-0). This match follows a Saturday where the Americans lacked margin for error after falling behind in afternoon play. Christiaan Bezuidenhout, holding a 1-1-0 record this week, meets U.S. rookie Chris Gotterup (2-1-0) at 1:02 p.m.

Hideki Matsuyama, a reliable 2-1-0 for the International Team, takes on Collin Morikawa (1-2-0) at 1:14 p.m. Morikawa will look to leverage his 6-2-0 career Presidents Cup record, which includes a perfect 2-0 mark in Singles. At 1:26 p.m., Adam Scott—appearing in his 12th Presidents Cup—faces Patrick Cantlay. Scott is 1-2-0 for the week, while Cantlay, a 10-4-0 player in previous cups, also sits at 1-2-0 at Medinah.

Closing Matches

Si Woo Kim (3-1-0) faces 21-year-old U.S. rookie Jackson Koivun (1-0-1) at 1:38 p.m. Si Woo Kim was part of an unstoppable duo with Tom Kim until the final session on Saturday. Koivun has already proven he belongs on this stage through his performance this week.

At 1:50 p.m., Min Woo Lee (2-1-1) meets Jacob Bridgeman, who is searching for his first point of the event. Nick Taylor, a 2-1-1 rookie for the International Team, faces Russell Henley at 2:02 p.m. Henley is 0-2-0 this week and will aim to recapture his 2024 form. Finally, in the 2:14 p.m. match, Ryan Fox—the reigning The Open Championship winner—faces U.S. veteran Xander Schauffele. Fox is 2-1-0 for the week, while Schauffele is 1-2-0 and enters looking for a strong finish to the event.
