Meet Your New Caddie: How to Use Mugshot Golf's Gear Finder & Goal Coach

3 min readMay 24, 202643 viewsoriginal

Two free tools built into Mugshot  Golf — the Gear Finder and the AI Goal Coach — help you dial in your bag and your  game. Here's how to get the most out of both.

We built two tools into Mugshot Golf to help you actually play better  golf, not just read about it: the Gear Finder and the Goal Coach. Both are free, both live right on the site, and both take less than a minute to get going. Here's a quick walkthrough of each.

🏌️ The Gear Finder

Trying to figure out which driver, putter, or wedge actually fits your game? The Gear Finder is a short quiz that recommends gear based on your handicap, swing speed, budget, and what part of your bag you're trying to upgrade.

How to use it

  1. Open the Gear Finder from the top navigation (or tap "Gear Finder" in the mobile menu).
  2. Answer a handful of quick questions — handicap range, what you're shopping for, and your rough budget.
  3. Get personalized recommendations — you'll see product cards matched to your answers, each with a direct link to learn more or buy.
  4. Save your favorites — if you're signed in, you can bookmark picks to your profile under "My Gear Picks" so you can come back to them later.

The quiz is short on purpose. It's meant to narrow the field, not overwhelm you with every club ever made.

🎯 The Goal Coach

The Goal Coach is an AI-powered chat assistant trained to talk through golf goals — short game, course management, mental game, practice routines, you name it. Think of it like having a teaching pro on call in your pocket.

How to use it

  1. Look for the chat bubble in the bottom-right corner of any page on the site.
  2. Click it to open the coach — a chat window will slide up.
  3. Tell it what you're working on. Be specific. "I want to break 90 this summer" works better than "help me play better."
  4. Ask follow-up questions. The coach remembers the conversation, so you can dig deeper: drills, weekly practice plans, what to focus on at the range, how to manage nerves on the first tee.

What to ask it

  • "Build me a 4-week practice plan to improve my putting from 6 feet."
  • "I'm losing 5–10 shots a round to my short game. Where should I start?"
  • "How do I stop blocking my driver to the right?"
  • "What's a good warm-up routine before a tournament round?"

Putting it together

Use the Goal Coach to figure out what in your game needs attention. Use the Gear Finder when the answer involves an equipment change. Between the two, you've got a pretty solid path from "I want to get better" to "here's exactly what to do next."

Both tools are free, both are always on, and both get better the more specific you are. Give them a try — and if you've got feedback or feature requests, hit us up through the Contact page.

Now go play better golf. 🏌️‍♂️
