Fitzpatrick Leads as Truist Championship Approaches Final Round
As the 2026 Truist Championship heads into its final round at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, Alex Fitzpatrick of England is holding on to a narrow one-shot lead. Following an impressive third round in which he carded a 7-under-par 64, Fitzpatrick has established a total of 14-under 199 over 54 holes of play.
Close Competition
The competition remains fierce, with Kristoffer Reitan from Norway trailing closely at 13-under par after also posting a solid round of 64.
Cameron Young, currently ranked No. 3 in the world, is in striking distance at 12-under, having produced an outstanding third round of 8-under 63. Young showcased his talent with an eagle on the par-5 seventh hole, landing his approach just a few feet from the pin after an impressive 238-yard shot from a fairway bunker.
Meanwhile, second-round leader Sungjae Im experienced a dip in performance, shooting a 70 on Saturday, which leaves him four shots back at 10-under alongside Nicolai Hojgaard, who also sits at 10-under for the tournament.
Notably, Rory McIlroy, a four-time winner at Quail Hollow, had a challenging day with a disappointing 4-over 75, causing him to fall out of contention as he seeks to regain form in this prestigious event.
Fitzpatrick's Remarkable Journey
Alex Fitzpatrick, who recently earned his PGA Tour membership just two weeks ago by triumphing at the Zurich Classic alongside his brother Matt Fitzpatrick, expressed his excitement at the prospect of claiming his first solo PGA title in only his third tour start. Commenting on the pressure and thrill of leading a tournament at this level, he acknowledged the support and inspiration drawn from his brother and his recent victories.
Looking Ahead
With the tournament concluding today, May 10, all eyes will be on the final round as Fitzpatrick seeks to keep his lead against a competitive field eager to chase down the title. The pressure mounts for all contenders, especially with a significant $20 million prize purse at stake for this PGA Tour Signature Event.
